Asda petition hits 1400 signatures - supporting their plans for Coalville.
May 30th, 2009 by michaelwyattCllr Michael Wyatt has today announced that over 1400 signatures have now been collected supporting ASDA in Coalville.
Michael leading the campaign to convince the Council planning members to support ASDA’s planning application for Coalville said, “I am delighted that we have managed to collect over 1400 signatures for the petition support ASDA in Coalville. My thanks go to everyone who has helped collect this massive number of signatures from local people. What local residents can now do is up the pressure by contacting members of the planning committee by letter, e-mail and even by phone urging them to support ASDA planning application. ASDA in Coalville will have a positive affect on the area, bringing local jobs for local people, and clean up one of the most dirtiest areas left in Coalville, which desperately needs upgrading. I only hope the planning members do not commit political suicide by not listening to the people of Coalville.”
The ASDA planning application will be discussed and voted on at the Planning meeting in early July. Members of the public are allowed to attend the meeting.

Kenmore Estate - Footpath half done!
May 27th, 2009 by michaelwyattCllr Michael Wyatt has been contacted by residents on Kenmore Estate asking for clarification concerning the rumour that only half of the footpaths are going to be resurfaced due to the County Highways not having enough money to finish the job. Michael Wyatt has today contacted the County Highways for clarification.
Michael said, “If this is true then its nothing but a total disgrace. How can they just do half a job. I can assure local residents that I will be making it known that this sought of second rate service is unacceptable.”
Michael will report back when more information is made available by the County Highways.
Cllr Michael Wyatt pushes Council to take action against untidy gardens.
May 27th, 2009 by adminCllr Michael Wyatt last night welcomed a report to one of the Scutiny meetings agreeing to Michael’s request for the Council to take action against council tenants who fail to make sure their gardens are kept to a good standard.
Michael has been working hard over the past two years with officers to tackle this problem, which as been highlighted by many local residents who feel the council is failing to take the appropriate action by allowing a small minority to bring the area down.
Michael said, “I am delighted the council have agreed with me that enforcement action is needed against tenants who blatantly let their gardens become a complete mess. Hopefully over the summer we will be able to continue our crack down of tenants who show no signs of helping to keep their gardens tidy. I must stress that if for some reason they are unable to keep their garden tidy, for example; they are to frail, or disabled then the council can provide a service to help with cutting the grass and hedges.”
IF ASDA WINS, COALVILLE WINS!
May 16th, 2009 by michaelwyattCllr Michael Wyatt today organised a photo shoot for local people to show their support for ASDA in Coalville. Over 50 local residents turned out to send a strong message to the Council’s planning members and planning Officers that we want ASDA in Coalville.
Michael said, “I would like to thank everyone for their support. I can now report that after today’s event we have collected over 1000 signatures supporting ASDA in Coalville. I only hope that the Councillors on the planning committee listen to the local people, and do not ignore the local residents support for ASDA, which will bring local jobs for local people to Coalville.”

Asda petition within reach of 1000 signatures!
May 15th, 2009 by adminSince launching the ASDA petition two weeks ago Michael has received nearly 1000 signatures supporting ASDA in Coalville. Michael said, “It’s a very powerful message the people of Coalville are sending the Tory Controlled Council. Many people are very angry at the inability of the Tory planning bosses to give ASDA the green light. Coalville needs an ASDA, Coalville needs the 400 jobs, which will come with ASDA. It’s time the council listened to the people and put Coalville first.”

Forest Rock Junction - Some good news coming soon….
May 15th, 2009 by michaelwyattCllr Michael Wyatt submitted a petition over a year ago to County Hall asking for action to be taken to help address the concerns expressed by local residents over the safety of the Forest Rock Junction.
Michael has been told by Officers that the County Highways Officers are hoping to consult local residents on how best to help tackle the issues of speeding and safety of drivers and pedestrians using the Junction.
Michael said, “It’s a long time coming but hopefully the speed limit will be reduced along Warren Hills Road, which I have been campaigning for over a number of years. The County Council should put the safety of our children first by listening to our message that 60mph is not acceptable. Only by reducing the speed limit will it been much safer to use the Junction.”
Michael will be making sure when the information is available all local residents are consulted fully.
Meadow Lane Cross Roads - URGENT UPDATE!
May 14th, 2009 by adminIn the local press it has been reported that traffic lights will soon be installed at the junction of Meadow Lane, Blackwood and Hall Lane. Cllr Michael Wyatt has today spoken to officers at County Hall and they have confirmed that their are NO plans to install lights at the junction.
Michael said, “After reading the report in the local press I contacted County Hall immediately for clarification. I have been informed by several officers, including Mr Warrington, the officer who presented a report at the highway forum meeting early this year, after I had represented a petition asking for action at the junction, that unfortunately there are NO plans to install lights at the junction. I know this will be very disappointing news to many local residents, especially when we have been campaigning for over 12 years for action to be taken to install lights at the junction. I can assure everyone that I will continue to campaign for pedestrian crossings at this junction. I have asked the local press to clarify their story so local people are not misled in anyway.”
If any new information comes to light we can assure you that we will let you know as soon as possible.
Wyatt wants County Hall to consider Ball Mill instead of incineration!
May 10th, 2009 by michaelwyattCllr Michael wyatt has today put forward is alternative to incineration, which as been the possible cause of canerious illnesses in people living near such a facility.
Cllr Michael Wyatt has always argued that incineration should not be considered until all avenues of recycling have been exhausted, and all other forms of dealing with our waste have been considered. Ball Mills have been around for many years and are a tried and tested technology. However, it is only recently that the technology has been used in this country.
The Ball Mill at Leicester’s Recycling Plant is a state of the art, fully mechanised waste processing and recycling facility. The Ball Mill breaks down Leicester’s waste before separating into Metals for recycling. FLOC (all light material) to be used for substitute fuel in the concrete industry, and organics for composting at the Anaerobic Digester at Leicester’s Wanlip site.
Cllr Michael Wyatt said, “Why have the Tory County Council bosses got to spend thousands of taxpayers money when clearly there is a facility right next door in Leicester City. Surely it would be more prudent to help expand this facility, or copy what is already being used in the way of a Ball Mill, which is not going to create toxic fumes. If I am elected on 4th June I will be asking questions to why the Tory Controlled County Council is hell bent on pushing their preferred option of incineration, when clearly there are other more environmental ways to tackle the need to dispose of our waste.”
Tesco proposal for Coalville looks like a prison!
May 9th, 2009 by adminThe New proposed Tesco being put forward for Coalville has been branded an eye sore by Cllr Michael Wyatt who said it looks more like a prison than an eye catching pleasant building.
Cllr Michael Wyatt said, “Looking at the Tesco proposal I cannot see how this building will in anyway help to improve the image of Coalville. The design of the building is not in keeping with the character of Coalville, it looks like a prison. The Tesco proposal will have a bigger impact on the traffic problems in Coalville than the ASDA proposal.
All that needs to be done, is re-open the two way system at the clock Tower, which should not of been closed off in the first place. Thousands of taxpayers money was wasted closing the road for no reason. Re-opening it would be a sensible move, and im sure would be welcomed by the vast majority of local people.”
What do you think? Do you think we need a Tesco in Coalville? Do you think the leaflet being distributed by Tesco consulting residents, after they have submitted the planning application looks like a prison, with high walls and two towers at each end? You decide.
Romans Crescent - Road in desperate need of repair!
May 8th, 2009 by adminCllr Michael Wyatt has reported yet again the poor condition of Romans Crescent. Michael has already reported this road, and other roads in the area, which desperately needs attention.
Michael said, “It seems to me that the Tory Bosses need to get a grip and sort out our roads, which need urgent attention. They need to not only improve the footpaths, after decades of neglect by Labour, but also our roads, which have been left to deteriorate. It’s time we had a local County Councillor who want to improve the area, and understands the issues.”
Michael will keep you updated with any progress.

Wyatt wants assurance that all footpaths on Kenmore Estate will be upgraded.
May 7th, 2009 by adminCllr Michael Wyatt has asked the County Highways Officers to clarify if the whole Kenmore Estate footpaths are to be upgraded after Michael asked them to upgrade the footpaths several months ago. A number of streets off Kenmore Estate have been missed, which gives the impression they are not to be upgraded. Some of the footpaths off Kenmore Crescent are in a pretty bad state due to being neglected for over a decade.
Michael said, “We need clarification, we cannot let the County Council just upgrade the main road through the Estate when clearly some of the side streets are in an even worse state. I will report back as soon as I have a reply from the highway officers.”
Michael would like to thank the local residents who contact him concerning this issue.
New Railings at Warren Hills School.
May 7th, 2009 by adminCllr Dominic McGill reported in our regular focuses over a year ago that your local Liberal Democrat Cllrs had requested the need for metal railings to be installed outside Warren Hills School due to concerns express by parents.
We are delighted to report that the county highways have installed the new railings due to pressure by parents who handed in a petition, and your local Liberal Democrat Councillors who asked for action over 12 months ago. Sadly Labour are trying to jump on the bandwagon, I suppose we should expect this, especially when it’s election time!
Cllr Michael Wyatt said, “It’s great news for the parents and children who use the school. Safety of the children must always be a priority. It’s a shame they didn’t install the railings years ago.”
Fantastic show of support - 500 already signed ASDA petition.
May 5th, 2009 by michaelwyattOver 500 local residents have so far signed the petition calling upon the Conservative Controlled District Council, and it’s planners to back ASDA’s planning application for Coalville. Many have said they are disgusted with the council, and it’s members for taking so long to make a decision, either to support or reject ASDA’s application.
Cllr Michael Wyatt said, “I am delighted to see so many people making their views known. Its important the council realises that the people of Coalville want them to stop messing around with this application and give it the thumbs up, which would bring over 400 local jobs to Coalville. I am hoping that we can gain even more support over the coming weeks so we can show this council that enough is enough, we want ASDA.”
