Lib Dems hit back at Tory Lies…
Local Tory Agent stooped to an all time low for attacking the Lib Dems for having the nerve to put forward a budget. The Tories have clearly shown they are embarrassed and have been shown up by the Lib Dems on the District Council for their lack of vision, and their willingness to keep the free booze and free parking permits for Councillors. Below is a copy of the reply given to the Tory agents letter is the local press.
Dear Editor,
I must say I had a good chuckle to myself after reading the Tory Agent’s letters last week about the District Council’s Budget. This is the first ever budget put forward by the Tories and I can honestly say that they have missed a golden opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of local people.
Instead they decided to create a £250,000 Tory Slush Fund, which will be used whenever they feel fit. Perhaps Mr Bridgen the Tory PPC (the real leader of the Council), who so publicly pulls the strings, is hoping the council can help him with his ambition of becoming our next MP for North West Leicestershire. Using council taxpayers money in this way is nothing more than a disgrace.
The Tory budget failed to address the concerns of parking charges in Coalville. The Lib Dem alternative budget took on board the views of shoppers and traders alike, proposing to freeze the parking charges. The Tory budget decided to increase our council tax by 2%. The Lib Dem alternative proposed to keep the Council tax increase at just 1.5% by implementing tried and tested ‘invest-to save’ measures and not penalising local residents already hit with mounting fuel bills.
The Tory budget allows them to spend £250,000 of council taxpayers money on privatising our Council Housing Stock. The Lib Dem alternative proposed to spend £150,000 of this allocated money to improve and invest in new equipment for recycling, which would have given the council an extra income of £50,000 per annum.
The Tories are obviously very embarrassed by being shown up by the Liberal Democrats who put forward a “workable and robust budget”, not my words but the words of the finance officers at the Council. The Tory budget was bland and lacked any vision but at the same time set up a £250,000 Tory Slush Fund to spend on their own pet projects.
Finally we gave the Tories, Labour and the fascist BNP an opportunity to vote to get rid of freeze booze and free parking permits for Councillors, and yes you guessed it, they voted to keep them. Seems that they’re looking after number one still. When voters get the chance to vote again in May next year, it would be worth bearing this in mind to give Labour, Tory and BNP the kicking they all deserve.
have your say
